Capital Area Providers (CAP) is a physician-hospital-based organization which is comprised of primary care and specialty physicians.  CAP is a 501(c), which is regulated by the TX State Board of Medical Examiners.   St. David's Healthcare  has exclusive rights and responsibilities as the "sole member".  CAP has an all-physician Board of Directors that meet every quarter.

Application/Credentialing Process

Medical staffing privileges at one of the St. David's Healthcare facilities ( Georgetown Hospital , North Austin Medical CenterRound Rock Medical CenterSouth Austin Medical Center or  St. David's Medical Center)  is a prerequisite in order to join CAP.  Physicians will be required to complete a CAP Physician Agreement and submit a Texas Standard Credentialing Application .Once CAP receives this paperwork, the credentialing process will begin.  Primary source verification is delegated to the HCA Central Processing Center in Houston, TX and can take up to 60 days or more to complete.  Once complete, the physician's information is presented to the Board of Directors for review and approval. Approved physicians will be notified in writing and payer "opt-in" information will be forwarded.

CAP participates with several health plans including but not limited to:

  • Cigna Healthcare
  • First Health
  • Great-West Healthcare
  • Healthsmart
  • TX True Choice
  • Multiplan
  • Accountable Health Plans
  • Galaxy Health Network
  • Coventry Health
  • TX Community Care (Medicare Product)
  • FirstCare

Once the physician has been appointed into CAP, he/she may “opt-in” to any plan they prefer. 

Reappointment

CAP reappointment cycle is every two years.  Notification of reappointment is sent out at that time.
